Let's clarify a few medical myths and facts such as
eggs being rich in cholesterol and eight glasses of
water needed to be drunk daily.
Myth - Avoid eggs since eating them will raise your
cholesterol level. This myth started because egg yolks
have the most concentrated amount of cholesterol in any
food.
Fact - everything in moderation. When eaten in
moderation, eggs do not pose a risk to your health since
they do not contain enough cholesterol.
Myth - Eating carbohydrates makes you fat. Reducing
carbohydrates may help you shed a few pounds because of
water loss associated with carbohydrates.
Fact - Carbohydrates taken in moderation do not directly
lead to weight gain.
Myth - Drink eight glasses of water a day. People lose
water through breathing, urinating and sweating
throughout the day.
Fact - we don't necessarily need 64 ounces of water
daily. Drinking too much water can cause a condition
called hyponatremia or water intoxication in which
electrolytes get diluted in body. If left untreated
hyponatremia can lead to coma and eventually death.
Myth - Everybody needs daily vitamin supplements.
Fact - People who consume a variety of fruits and
vegetables, whole grain and low fat dairy don't need to
use vitamin supplements; although most of us don't eat
that healthily.
